Juniors training and race diary

Track races for Juniors

We are pleased to see that there are a number of 600m races being organised for years 3,4,5 and 6. The first ones are to be held on Monday 4th June at Middlesbrough starting at 7p.m. The cost of entry is £1 for each event. The second fixture is on the 18th June and the 3rd one on the 16th July.

In addition to these there is a junior race of about 2 miles before the senior race at the Egton Gooseberry Run on Sunday 10th June.
We intend to make this day our club’s annual fun day with an afternoon of barbeques and games.

The NYSD league have also included races in their summer track fixtures for the U11’s at Catterick on Sunday 1st July.

TRAINING
Training sessions are held for the junior section every Sunday at 10am. The venue alternates between Whitby and Loftus. (See venues below). Parents are welcome to come and watch or to join in.
Circuit training is held on Thursdays at the Dome - Boulby Mine, at 6.45pm

Even though there are some very important cross country fixtures outstanding it won’t be long before track and field starts.
I now have forms for the meeting at Shildon on Sunday the 15th April, this is the meeting we have been to for the past few years.

Age groups
U11 - must be under 11 on August 31st 07
U13 - must be 11 by August 31st 07 and under 13 on that day
U15 - must be 13 or 14 on August 31st 07
U17 - must be 15 or 16 on August 31st 07

For the juniors who are 10 now but 11 by August 31st 07 they can compete as U13’s

There are restrictions on the number of events which can be competed in:
U11 and U13 max of 3
U15 max of 3 (this cannot include the 800 and 3000 together on the same day)
U17 max of 3

CROSS COUNTRY SEASON
In addition to the NYSD there are quite a number of high quality events which I would like the older juniors to build into their programme of races, the full season looks like this:-

There are also the Whitby schools fixtures to qualify for the counties. This is a demanding programme and most of the races will only apply to the older juniors, - what it does mean is that you get the training in now. Tony

York Open Meeting 10th September
In hot sunny conditions reminiscent of the July meeting at York the young runners from the club had a very successful day. more
