Captain's Rantings - May 2007
(Previous rantings are archived below - left hand column)
May has been a busy month for racing so far with a busy calendar of events on the fells, roads and trails.
Carlton Challenge
Dan Middlemass finished 6th overall at Carlton in a time of 34-57 – a race which boasted a very good field for the first race of the summer fell series. Dave Parkin continues his comeback with 18th followed by Dave Collett (36th).
Coast Road Spring 5k
A good run on this course by all L&W runners. Surprisingly windy (unusual for this course) meant times were slightly down for some. Finishers:
Andy Pearson 9th in 16-50
Bill Bingham 17th in 17-42
Julie Mastrolonardo 43rd in 18-57
Dave Horness 45th in 19-07
Robert Howard 55th in 19-43
Nicola Kent 68th in 20-25
King of the Age Group on the Night for L&W was super vet Bill Bingham with a whopping 79.57% You should lie about your age more often Bill!
Fountains 10km at Ripon
This was one of three races over the bank holiday weekend. This race saw the long overdue return of Tom Herbert into racing with a steady 42-04 for the 10km distance ahead of the injured “but I’ll run it for the club” Rob Williamson who hobbled home in 31st place in 42-13. The race was won by Gary Dunn of Thirsk and Sowerby in 34-16 with Andy Pearson in 3rd place in 36-49. For those who have not done this race before it is a well organised hilly multi terrain course complete with bouncy castles at the finish. This race was the first in the Black Sheep Race Series which explained the big turnout.
Kirby Moorside 10km
We had three runners at this event with Dave Horness (41-13), Joanne Abbott (45-39) and Donald Abbott (50-52) all running.
Tees Barrage 10km
The senior men were lacking in numbers at this race and it was the ladies who took the honours with fine runs from Julie Mastrolonardo (28th in 40-40), Nicola Kent (42-42) and Adele Thompson (48-47). Sole representative from the men was Michael Mastrolonardo who finished with 43-49.
Ripon 10m
“Impressive, steep, real quick, ouch, arm flaying, staggering, sun beaming, heat stifling, enormous flys!” These are a few of the descriptors used by our Bill Bingham on his race report which can be found on www.fetcheveryone.com. Needless to say Bill had an impressive run on this tough course with 10th place in 62-24. Gary Dunn had his usual impressive run to win in 53-58. Other Loftus representatives on the day were Joanne Abbott (72nd in 76-04) Donald Abbott (150th in 88-46)
Lordstones (Short) Race
Two Loftus and Whitby runners tackled this tough (short????) race. Dave Parkin 12th and Dave Collett 32nd.

All of the above is subject to changes designed to completely out fox the opposition teams (or is that team!) who will be looking at this website and strategically putting their best runners against ours to pit themselves against us.
Please let Andy Pearson or Steve Hardy know as soon as possible if you are available or not. Anyone feigning injury prior to the event will be punished!
It is important that you reccy your legs as soon possible to ensure no mishaps on the day of the relay. Please remember that you are not guaranteed perfect weather on the day of the event so going on landmarks alone should not be your strategy! We all know the story of last year when one of our runners (the clue is in the teamsheet!) managed to get lost on his home turf!
Dates for your Diary
27th May - Raby Castle 10km – A few of us are getting together to do this one. It is an easy run – just a few climbs – great scenery – Mixed Terrain and guaranteed good weather (Yeah Right!)
29th September 2007. North of England 6 Stage at Warrington.
I will be organising a Senior Mens Team for this event. Please let me know asap your availability. |
